Becoming An Ofsted Registered Nanny
Ofsted have set mandatory criteria for home childcare providers wishing to become registered. The applicant must fulfil all of the criteria.
Qualification
The registered person must have a qualification at a minimum of level 2 in an area of work relevant to the childcare, or training in the core skills as set out in the document ‘common core of skills and knowledge for the children’s workforce.
Paediatric Frist Aid Certificate
An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
This is a police and criminal records check which must be carried out to ensure the individual is safe to work with vulnerable members of society. The DBS replaced the former Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) in December 2012. The DBS is done for you on application of registration.
Public Liability Insurance
Essential cover for the nanny should anything happen to the children, or as a result of the children, whilst they are in her care.
Registration Costs - £105 per year.
Employers who wish their nanny to become Ofsted Registered so they can take advantage of Childcare Vouchers may offer to pay for the policy but this is at their discretion. Often employers and nannies will split the cost if they decide both parties benefit.
